Our Accessibility Commitments
Built into every page, for every visitor
Keyboard Navigation
Every feature on our site can be accessed using only a keyboard, with visible focus indicators on all interactive elements.
Screen Reader Support
Semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and proper heading structure ensure our content works with assistive technologies like NVDA and VoiceOver.
Color Contrast
Text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios—at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and UI elements.
Responsive Design
Our site adapts seamlessly to all screen sizes and supports zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
Multi-Language Support
Google Translate integration provides access in 12+ languages, supporting our diverse community of families.
Accessible Documents
Our downloadable PDF forms include fillable fields so parents can complete enrollment documents digitally in their browser.
Standards We Follow
WCAG 2.1 Level AA Conformance
Our website strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines define how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.
As a licensed childcare center and a place of public accommodation under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), we recognize our responsibility to ensure that our digital presence is accessible to all members of the community we serve.
Accessibility Features on This Website
- Skip Navigation Links: A “Skip to main content” link appears at the top of every page when using keyboard navigation, allowing users to bypass repetitive navigation menus.
- Semantic HTML Structure: We use proper heading hierarchy (h1 through h6), landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer), and ARIA attributes to ensure a logical reading order for screen readers.
- Alternative Text: All meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images use empty alt attributes so screen readers skip them appropriately.
- Form Accessibility: All form inputs are associated with descriptive labels. Required fields are clearly identified. Error messages are programmatically linked to their inputs.
- Color Independence: Information is never conveyed by color alone. Visual cues, icons, and text labels supplement color-coded elements.
- Resizable Text: All text can be resized up to 200% using browser zoom without loss of content or functionality.
- Consistent Navigation: Navigation menus appear in the same location and order across all pages, providing a predictable browsing experience.
- Accessible PDFs: Our enrollment and resource forms are provided as fillable PDFs that can be completed directly in the browser, with a “View & Fill” option and a download option for offline use.
- Reduced Motion: Our CSS animations respect the
prefers-reduced-motion system setting for users who are sensitive to motion.
- On-Page Accessibility Widget: A built-in accessibility tool allows visitors to adjust font size, contrast, spacing, and other visual preferences directly on our site.
Assistive Technology Compatibility
Our website is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:
- Screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
- Screen magnification software
- Speech recognition software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Switch access devices
We test our site using current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge browsers in combination with commonly used assistive technologies.
Known Limitations
Despite our best efforts, some areas of our website may not yet be fully accessible. Known limitations include:
- Third-Party Content: Some embedded content from third-party services (Google Maps, Google Translate, social media widgets) may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA standards. We have limited control over the accessibility of third-party components.
- Legacy PDF Documents: Some older PDF forms provided by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) may have limited accessibility features. We are working to provide accessible alternatives where possible.
- Dynamic Content: Some dynamic page features, such as animated transitions and interactive elements, may not be fully accessible to all assistive technologies.
We are actively working to identify and resolve these issues.
Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is not a one-time effort—it is an ongoing commitment. We regularly:
- Audit our website using automated tools (Google Lighthouse, WAVE, axe DevTools)
- Conduct manual keyboard and screen reader testing
- Review new content and features for accessibility before publication
- Train our staff on digital accessibility best practices
- Monitor for new WCAG updates and evolving ADA guidance
